Encapsulation

Placenta encapsulation is growing in popularity for birthing people who would like to naturally replenish vitamins and hormones in the post-partum period. Encapsulation is the process of cooking and preserving a birthing person’s placenta. Placenta’s are loaded with Iron, B6, and natural hormones which have been found to help ease the transition into post-partum life.

I have been trained to prepare placenta’s in the Traditional Chinese Method, which uses lemon, ginger, and jalapeno peppers in the first step of the steaming process. I then dehydrate the placenta in a dehydrator for about 12 hours. Then the placenta is ground into a fine powder and placed into gel capsules. All equipment used for encapsulation is thoroughly cleaned and sterilized with each use.

The reported benefits from people who have encapsulated their placentas are many. These include but are not limited to: prevention or decreased severity of postpartum depression and “baby blues”, increased milk production, reduction in postpartum bleeding, and increased energy levels.

I also offer placenta tincture. Placenta tincture is made from a piece of the birthing person’s own raw or lightly steamed placenta (depending on your preference) steeped in a quality grain alcohol such as vodka. Placenta tincture is an added bonus because it can be used in addition to and long after your capsules are gone. My tincture’s come in an amber glass bottle dropper. It’s said that tinctures are best used for emotional, mental, psychological instability, and may also be beneficial in treating PMS and menopause. The tincture can also be diluted in water and given to the child when he or she is getting sick or in times of transition. If concerned about intoxicating effects, the tincture can be diluted (7-10 drops) in a full glass of water or juice, or even added to boiling tea or water then cooled before ingestion to “burn off ” the alcohol. At this dilution, it contains less alcohol than cough syrup.

If you are interested in this service, I will pick up your placenta shortly after you’ve given birth (ideally within 24 hours of birth) from the hospital, birth center, or your home. I will return it to you in capsule form about one to two days after pick up. My fee will be due when I deliver the capsules to you. Tinctures take six weeks to complete and will be delivered to your home when finished.
